Competition: University of Technology Sydney Law Students Society Inter-varsity Technology Moot (Oralist; Junior Counsel for Appellant and Respondent)

In the second semester of my first year in law school, I represented the University of Tasmania in the UTS LSS Technology Moot as the Appellant and Respondent’s Junior Counsel. Working with my team, we tackled a problem concerning legal professional privilege and whether an injunction could be granted in light of a massive corporation’s data breach and regulatory investigations.

This experience represented my first foray into legal research and in distilling complex statutory and common law principles. I was also introduced to the importance of making submissions in a proper format.

Through the moot, I continued to develop my foundation in advocacy skills, particularly in researching niche areas of the law. I also worked on structuring persuasive written and oral arguments, but most importantly, the moot taught me the importance of precision and strategic thinking when I made arguments before the judge.

A letter of recommendation from Ms Ella Hilder, our moot coach, is available. If this is required for an application, please reach out to me directly via imran.khan@utas.edu.au.
